Qualifications

Primary Purpose:                  

To become a worthy employee of the district by safely and adequately performing duties

associated with maintaining buildings and the surrounding areas in a clean, healthy, and safe condition.

 

Education/Certification:        

Ten grade education or higher (preferred)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:   

Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language (preferred)

Basic knowledge of building repair and maintenance procedures in areas such as cleaning,

floor  care, sanitation, plumbing, electricity, carpentry painting, etc…

Ability to perform the physical requirements as per the duties listed in the job description

Proficient skills in operating and maintaining equipment and tools needed to perform jobs as

listed in the job description

Basic skills in human relations

 

Experience:                       

Custodial experience in school setting (preferred)

Technical Skills, Responsibilities and Duties

 

In PSJA ISD, we hire individuals who demonstrate excellence in these technical areas as they lead others

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Emptying waste receptacles.
  • Mopping floors using dust mops.
  • Spot mopping, as per schedule or as needed, using wet mops (use appropriate solution).
  • Buff, spray, and scrub floors, as per schedule or as needed, using power equipment (use appropriate buffing pad).
  • Stripping floors, as needed, using stripping chemicals, mops, auto-scrubber with stripping pad, and wet vacuum. (Be sure to set up the “Wet Floor” signs).
  • Sealing floors, as needed, using mops, wool pads, and mechanical wax applicators.
  • Varnishing floors, as needed, using high-speed and ultrahigh-speed floor machines.
  • Cleaning toilet bowls and urinal basins.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting exterior surfaces of toilets and urinals.
  • Cleaning sinks and fixtures.
  • Cleaning mirrors and windows.
  • Picking up paper.
  • Spot cleaning walls and stall partitions.
  • Refilling dispensers with paper towels, toilet tissue, sanitary napkins, soap, and air freshener.
  • Assures that procedures to control bacteria and prevent the spread of infections are given top priority.
  • Assure that an adequate stock of cleaning supplies is maintained at assigned area.
  • Maintains an accurate and current inventory of all custodial supplies and equipment assigned to designated area.
  • Makes every effort to provide an accurate physical inventory.
  • Assures that custodial equipment is maintained on a regular basis.
  • Assists in the preparation for emergencies such as hurricanes, windstorms, and heavy rains causing severe flooding. (Securing furniture away from windows, elevating furniture to prevent water damage, and securing or storing all movable items from grounds, etc.)
  • Assists head custodians, school principal or building supervisor in preparing damage reports caused by hurricanes, windstorms, flooding, etc…
  • Reports inadequate services or major repair needs to the head custodian or to the assistant and head custodian.
  • Performs minor repairs on desks, doors, lights, plumbing fixtures, etc…
  • Inspects work to insure adherence to district’s standards.
  • Lifting and setting up cafeteria tables.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
